Gus and the TV: 2022

In his archetypal role as a "fool" (court jester), Ye is revealing (knowingly or not) that the agape sentiment "Love Everyone" is unacceptable in our current culture. The Twitter post that resulted in his suspension was a photo of a swastika entangled inside a star of David captioned, "YE24 LOVE EVERYONE #LOVESPEECH." The image presents an integration of opposites and calls attention to the problem of evil. In an inverted world compassion is hate, woke is asleep, freedom is enslavement, and the fool speaks the truth. The idea that that there is no absolute evil, only absolute good is a Christian idea that is also embodied in the work of Tolkien. While people can be possessed by evil, as long as they are alive they have the opportunity to come to themselves (like the prodigal son) and repent or change their behavior. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo "fails" to destroy the ring, but because he showed mercy on Gollum, the ring was destroyed. A third eagle was sent from above to retrieve Gollum from Mount Doom in case he made it out alive. God loves all, even the most wretched. This is how fate and free will are connected. The ring was always going to be destroyed because Sauron could never become god of the earth. But as Gandalf says, "even the very wise cannot see all ends." The cosmic pattern of self-defeating evil is destined to play out, but we have the free will to choose what role we will play in it (to our glory or judgement).
